Positive Behaviour for Learning

I am Safe

I am Respectful

I am a Learner

At James Erskine Public School, we believe in assisting students to develop a positive approach to their learning. Encouraging students to view themselves and others from a positive perspective helps us to achieve this goal.

Weekly lessons about class and playground behaviour are taught explicitly to all classes. These lessons incorporate the core values of Public Education and provide students with ideas and strategies to manage and maintain appropriate behaviour.  At weekly assemblies, our student leaders reinforce these values by preparing and presenting short plays or skits.

Each student at JEPS is enocuraged to work toward the achievement of a Bronze, Silver and Gold Award in recognition of excellent behaviour. To achieve these awards, students have to meet specific criteria and maintain excellent behaviour for the whole year.

Students are given the opportunity to reflect upon their behaviour in consultation with the class teacher, before the decision is made about whether the criteria has been met and an award presented.

Each term an Assembly of Excellence is held at Erskine Park High School, to give the whole school community an opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate the students receiving a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Also at this special assembly, two students from each class are presented with a Principal's Award. The focus for the Principal's Award changes each term. In 2009 the Principal's Award will be presented for:

Literacy (Term 1)

Numeracy (Term 2)

Visual Arts (Term 3)

Technology (Term 4)

In both the playground and classroom setting, students displaying excellent behaviour may be given a "good on you" card which they place into boxes outside the hall.  At the weekly assemblies, the "good on you" cards are collected and at least two cards are drawn out with the lucky students receiving a voucher to use at the canteen.
